Still Mega

In October 2015, I launched the first version of a tool I built to help me and my colleagues generate seating plans quickly.

I did not expect it to become the world's most popular seating chart generator. If I had, I might have spent more time thinking up a good name for it. As it was, with a brain frazzled by a week of coding, I found an available domain name and named my new website "Mega Seating Plan". To be honest, I never really liked it, but I couldn't come up with anything better.

A few years ago, I acquired the domain name seatingplan.com, and that has been the primary domain for Mega Seating Plan ever since. Now, in 2026, it is time to drop the "Mega", so your favourite seating chart generator is now just "Seating Plan".

Has anything else changed?

Well, the site is always being improved and updated, but fundamentally Seating Plan is the same tool that has been loved by teachers around the world for over a decade. It is still run by Mega Seating Plan Ltd, a company owned 100% by me.

To go with the new name, I've designed a simple and clean new logo. Check out the old logos below; my friend described the 2015 logo as looking like a 90s CBBC ident, while I think the 2018 version feels like the logo of an education software reseller from the 1980s.
